Our bureau features attorneys, veterinarians, and other veterinary and legal professionals who possess deep expertise at the intersection of law and veterinary medicine. Several of our speakers hold dual degrees, giving them a unique perspective on the complex needs of veterinarians and the business challenges they face. Whether addressing regulatory issues, business practices, or legal compliance, our experts are equipped to provide relevant, practical insights tailored to the veterinary profession and are members of the AVMLA.

Jim Wilson, DVM, JD

Dr. Jim Wilson, DVM, JD, is a distinguished veterinary and legal expert with a unique background that combines veterinary medicine and legal education. He earned his veterinary degree from Iowa State University in 1967 and a law degree from UCLA in 1973. Over the years, he has taught at numerous veterinary schools, Dr. Wilson has authored several books and articles on these subjects, contributing significantly to the field. Dr. Wilson's dedication to his profession and his ability to bridge the gap between veterinary medicine and legal expertise have made him a respected figure in the veterinary community.

He speaks on veterinary law, ethics, career development, and practice management.

Rob Simpson, DVM, JD

Dr. Rob Simpson is both a seasoned small animal veterinarian and an accomplished legal professional, with 16 years in veterinary practice and 10 years leading his own law firm. He currently serves as Director of Professional Development Education and Assistant Professor at Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Simpson has held leadership roles, including President of the Tennessee Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners and Vice Chair of the Tennessee Controlled Substance Monitoring Database Oversight Committee and is widely published in veterinary and legal fields.

He speaks on veterinary law, ethics, career planning and controlled substance reporting.

Debra Vey Voda-Hamilton, Esq.

Debra Vey Voda-Hamilton is a former government attorney who has transitioned to a solo practitioner specializing in animal-related conflicts. Debra has a background in collaborative law and mediation, focusing on resolving civil conflicts, including special education, contract, and animal conflicts. She is an international speaker and best-selling author, and her work has been featured in major publications like the NY Times, Wall Street Journal, and Reuters, Debra's approach to animal-related disputes emphasizes a supportive environment for de-escalation and constructive dialogue, ensuring all parties feel genuinely heard, respected, and understood.

She speaks on conflict resolution, mediation, and client engagement.
